Diane's passion for teaching Chinese acupuncture and its applied theories was captured at the left in a patient presentation class at Tai Sophia Institute, now Maryland University of Integrative Health. She was a faculty member there for 14 years in the Masters of Acupuncture program and for nine years in the Masters in Transformative Leadership and Social Change program. It was a Tai Sophia Institute where she was classically trained in Traditional Acupuncture, specifically in the Five Element style, and where she earned a Masters Degree in Acupuncture. Diane has been a licensed acupuncturist in Baltimore for over 27 years, and for part of that time she provided acupuncture at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore for a National Institute of Health oncology research study.
In addition to teaching and maintaining her own private practice since graduation, Diane spent 12 years pioneering acupuncture treatment for addictions in several Baltimore city clinics, including at the Baltimore City Detention Center. She earned her certification as an Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist from the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) in 2002 and maintains a membership to that organization and the Maryland Acupuncture Society.
Diane currently provides wellness workshops and has lectured to medical students at Johns Hopkins Medical School, physicians and interns at Sinai Hospital, employees at Kennedy Krieger Institute, students at Goucher College and Essex Community College, and to employees local businesses. She compliments her acupuncture training with an extensive list of courses in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), including pediatrics, women’s health, fertility, sports medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, oncology, nutrition, trauma, essential oils, and multiple classes in mind body health. She has studied with JefferyYuen who is an 88th generation Dallas priest of Chinese medicine and Fritz Smith, the founder of zero balancing. For years, Diane mentored with Bob Duggan, co-founder of the Traditional Acupuncture Institute and well known for its emphasis on teaching patients self-care. Personally, Diane regularly enjoys yoga, tai chi, hiking, and meditation, and she recommends similarly empowering health-promoting activities to clients.
